Amelia's Adventures at the Zoo

Amelia's Adventures at the Zoo.

Little Amelia has an active imagination. She loves to sit in class and imagine she's flying a space ship, or is the captain of a pirate ship. But today, today is going to be different. Today Amelia is going to the zoo! Imagine the possibilities!

Amelia was sitting in her room and imagining herself swinging with the monkeys, dancing with the hippos, and sipping tea with the tigers. Amelia's mom called to her from downstairs, "Its time to go!"

Amelia ran downstairs, threw on her coat and bounded out the door, much like the gazelles she thought she might get to see at the zoo.

The car pulled up to the gates at the zoo. They were so tall! They must keep giants here! Amelia had her face pressed so hard to the window with excitement that her nose was squished!

When her mom parked the car, Amelia unbuckled herself and jumped out. "Let's go, mom!" she said. She took her mom's hand and dragged her to the ticket booth.

The man at the booth reminded Amelia of an old grizzly bear. He had a large forehead with a slanting nose, big round cheeks, and a huge smile that showed all of his teeth. Amelia started giggling. Her mom paid for their tickets and they went inside.

The first cage they stopped at was for the crocodiles. Amelia imagined herself playing croquet with the crocodiles. But wait!

The crocodiles were cheating! Those crazy crocodiles were cheating at croquet! Amelia grabbed her mom's hand and pulled her to the next cage. She had had enough of those crazy crocodiles!

Amelia could hear what was coming up in the next cage. Elephants! She could hear them trumpeting already! Amelia imagined herself playing in a band with the elephants. Amelia would play the guitar and sing, and the elephants would play their trumpety trunks. Their music would be a hit and they would be so famous. But wait!

Those energetic elephants were trampling the stage! They were crushing the instruments and breaking everything! Amelia grabbed her mom's hand and pulled her to the next cage. She had had enough of those energetic elephants.

As Amelia and her mother walked to the next cage Amelia could hear a deep rumbling sound. They rounded the corner and Amelia saw tigers! Amelia got so excited she started jumping. Suddenly Amelia was on a stage tap dancing with the tigers! The crowd was cheering and tossing flowers on to the stage. But wait!

The tigers started getting tangled! Their talis got twisted, their feet got flustered and they fell into a twisted tangled mess on the floor! Amelia grabbed her mothers hand and pulled her to the next cage. She had had enough of those tangled tigers.

Amelia and her mom approached the next cage. Amelia spotted penguins! All of a sudden Amelia was running her very own restaurant, and all the waiters were penguins! The food was great, and everyone loved her restaurant. But wait!

The playful penguins were eating the food! Not only that, they were using the ice cubes to build a slide and they were getting water all over the place! Amelia grabbed her mother's hand and pulled her to the next cage. Amelia had had enough of those playful penguins.

Amelia and her mother were approaching the last cage in the zoo. Amelia was really hoping that the animals in this cage would be more fun. As Amelia and her mother walked in front of the cage, Amelia saw a whole herd of giraffes! Amelia's eyes lit up. Giraffes were her most favourite animal!

Amelia was climbing up the long legs of the giraffes, all the way up to the top of their heads. She would slide down their long necks to their backs. What fun it was to play with giraffes! The tickle of their hair on the backs of her legs as she slid down their necks made her laugh very loudly.

"Amelia, what are you laughing at?" asked Amelia's mother. Amelia told her all about the cheating crocodiles, the energetic elephants, the tangled tigers, and the playful penguins. She told her mom that the gentle giraffes were the most fun because they let her slide down their necks and their hair tickled her legs and made her laugh.

Amelia's mother laughed as she took Amelia's hand and said, "Amelia honey, you have one wild imagination. Let's go home." As Amelia and her mother turned to walk away both of them took one last look at the giraffes. But wait!

The giraffes winked! Amelia giggled as her mother looked from Amelia to the giraffes to Amelia to the giraffes then back to Amelia. "But-- how?" Amelia giggled more and started to lead her startled looking mother back to the car.

"Like you said mom. Just a wild imagination."

The End

Hurray for a better day!

Okay, today was a good day. It wasn't fantastic, but so far so good! Nothing bad has happened hehe. Not that I'm asking for anything bad to happen! GOD NO!!

To give a disclaimer...the subject matter of my blog today is a rather sensitive subject. It is in no way a definitive answer to the wonders of organized religion lol. It's just my personal opinion, and my personal beliefs.

We had an interesting child development class today. We got onto the topic of homosexuality, and gay marriages. We had some interesting debates in that class. There was one girl in the class who is a devout Christian and said that in the bible it says that homosexuality is not allowed, and since it's written in the bible, then is must be that way. I had to bite my tongue because I am NOT a religious person. Not at all. I'm not saying I'm not spiritual, I'm just not religious, and I don't follow any one religion. Anyway, I honestly believe that each person has their own faith, and they follow a religion because that's what helps them through life. They get something out of religion that I obviously don't. Personally, I feel that the bible is nothing but a work of fiction created to get a larger message across. The stories in the bible are just that, stories. They weren't meant to be taken literally, or altered and analyzed and picked apart until the original meaning of the text is completely gone. Anyways, I digress. I had to refrain from speaking my mind because, as I said, each person has the right to their own beliefs, and since it was a class discussion, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. But what I really felt like asking her was if she truly believed every word of the bible. If she did, then she should believe that as a women she is the creator of sin and shouldn't be considered a person, she should also believe that homosexuals aren't people, since they live outside of the word of god as well. I wanted to ask her if she had friends who were homosexual, and if she did, if she treated them as regular people. I wanted to ask her if she believed in equal rights for women, because if she did then she was going against the word of her "God". And if she had answered yes to believing in equal rights, or in treating her homosexual friends as people, if that meant she was picking and choosing which parts of her religion she believed in. Because if she's as devout a Christian as she says she is, then she would be obligated to follow her religious dogma.

And this is precisely why I don't believe in any organized religion. The only religion I come close to believing in is Paganism. Even in that case, I believe in the energies of the world around me, and that everything has a spirit or soul, but I can't bring myself to believe in the idea that everything is attributed to or controlled by individual gods or goddesses. I really like the idea of the universal mother, or Mother Earth, Gaea. It just makes sense to me. However, I also believe that you can't have creation without a male counterpart, so I believe there could be a co-diety...so to speak. A male and a female energy that runs the world and keeps everything in balance. If you don't have balance in the world, then everything is knocked out of whack, and you get what we currently have: constant fighting, inequality, and disharmony. I am very attracted to the idea of the divine feminine, and am somewhat resentful towards the men (early Christians) who altered and created stories to make women out to be the perpetrators of original sin. There was a time when women were reverred and worshipped for their ability to create and give life. They were seen as goddesses because of that power. But with the dawning of Christianity all of that changed. Women were the reason behind the fall of man. Pregnancy and birth was no longer a miracle, it was a punishment. All the Pagan symbols of the divine feminine were changed and made out to be evil or demonic. And now, 2000 years later we see the results of that. And only recently have we been fighting to change that and put the balance back into place.

I find it very disheartening that people aren't able to put their differences aside and accept the everyone for who they are. Who cares what their individual beliefs are? Respect people for what they have faith in, and trust that it helps them. Just because it's not the same thing you have faith in doesn't mean it isn't any less important. By respecting one another and working together, we help restore the balance to this lovely planet we like to call earth.

Just some food for thought.

The mission: FAILED

Okay, small town businesses SUCK!!!!!! I went to CD Plus today to try and special order the Jack Johnson poster. It was a flat out no-go. They don't special order posters. I had one last shot, Mudshark's on Main Street. So I headed down there after doing some shopping. I walk in, look around at all their posters and then ask the guy at the cash if they do special orders. I get a snotty, monotone, glaring "No, we don't.".....with a resounding "get out of my face and store" attitude. I was T-I-C-K-E-D!!!! He gave me such a snotty reply, I thought about punching his lights out! Instead I just gave him a snotty look in return and walked away. When all I really wanted to do was tear into him about how inconsiderate businesses are these days, and that if he maybe tried treating his customers with respect he might actually sell things from his store, but then again, I guess he doesn't have to sell CDs and posters when his pot business does so well, and storm out. GOD THAT BURNS ME!!!

COMMERCIALISM AND CAPITALISM SUCKS!!!!!

*huffs and puffs and finally calms down* Okay. I'm done.

A really ticked off

Sara

Well, I've gone and done it...

I thought it would never happen. I was resisting at all costs, but I finally caved. I got a blog. Why, you ask? Because for some reason, I think it might help me think through things. I've heard a lot of people say it's nice to have a place to put their thoughts down, get the stress out of their lives, and then walk away. My argument was always, "Well, what do you think a journal is?", but apparently I was very wrong lol. Apparently it's easier to sit down and type than it is to write and get hand cramps. And, that argument makes sense to me hehe. So, here I am, writing my first blog. AHHH!!!!...*deep breath* It's okay....I can do this hehe.

I have a friend who writes a blog about important issues in her life, or things that happen around her. I have another friend who writes about her day to day life, and anything else that strikes her. My mother does the same. I think I'll follow the herd and do that. I'll also use it as a way to display my latest art work. It's easier to send everyone to a link rather than email all my latest work out to everyone on an individual basis hehe.

So, take a moment to whine, I MISS MATT! I just got to see him on Sunday. For those who don't know, Matt is my boyfriend of almost 7 months. We'll have been together 7 months on April 3. He is absolutely the love of my life hehe. We are completely obsessed with each other (in a healthy sort of way lol) but I think it's the fact that I know he's gone up north fishing, and I don't get to see him until late Friday that I miss him so much. He has an English test to take at the OPP for a dispatch position Friday night. *crosses her fingers* He needs this job badly. My mom told me that it's only casual to start, but my dad tells me that it will eventually lead to full time, which will be nice. I haven't told Matt that it's only casual to start. My dad says that there will be more than enough hours available to work, but still, I don't want Matt to get disheartened. It's been so frustrating for him. He's been laid off since mid February, and hasn't been able to find a decent job. There is absolutely NOTHING in Northern Ontario for decent full time employment that pays over $10/hr. And that's what Matt needs if he's going to be able to make a start in life. He's applied to several regional forces across Ontario, trying to get into policing, but so far that isn't getting any results either. I have to admit I get a little frustrated with him, because he's resisting going to Southern Ontario. Currently, the London force is hiring. He can't find their contact information online, so he emailed them. I wondered why he didn't call, but I don't want to seem pushy. And I actually just went to the site and see that their address is printed at the top of their page lol. I guess I'll email it to him hehehe. Then he can send out another one. I've told Matt not to worry about me, I can go just about anywhere and get work. But with him, he has to go where he can get a job. Anyway, this is a topic that will be coming up a lot, I can guarantee it hehe.

On a completely different topic, I'm on a mission. I found the most amazing Jack Johnson poster on allposters.com last night! I wanted it soooooooo bad. It took everything in my power not to order it lol. Anyway, I absolutely LOVE Jack Johnson, and this poster would be the capper for my collection. And I have to say, it would look absolutely smashing next to my Audioslave poster hehe. So, my goal, is to get to CD Plus today and see if they can order it for me hehe. If they can, I will kiss the person who orders it! LOL...well not really, but you get the idea.

Anyway, that's enough of my blog for one day. I can see that I'm going to suffer from a serious case of verbal diarrhea with this thing lol. I have to head out to the Ontario Early Years Centre at some point today to get a tour and get things rolling to start volunteering. And then off to the mall. :o) I just might do a little shopping, even though I probably shouldn't lol. So, until next time!

Hugz,
Sara
